2016 Moreton Bay Innovation Awards

A green innovation was named Innovation of the Year at the first ever Moreton Bay Innovation Awards, announced at a Gala Awards Event in Caboolture on 5th February.

The Innovation of the Year major prize of $10,000 and a money-can’t-buy guest appearance on Australia’s most popular podcast ‘The Mark Bouris Show’ was awarded to Highvale based company Impact Building Systems Pty Ltd for their entry ‘Solar Combined Heat and Power’, which captures the heat of the sun to produce heat and steam and power a range of agricultural, industrial, mining and municipal processes.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said the calibre of entries received made the task of selecting winners very difficult for the judging panel.

“These awards have demonstrated that there is outstanding innovation occurring across our region every day and I have no doubt that some of the innovations entered into these awards will change the world and put our region on the map in their respective industries,” Mayor Sutherland said.

“Congratulations to Impact Building Systems and the other four winners announced tonight. You give me great confidence that our region’s economy will continue to grow in strength well into the future.”

Queensland Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy and Minister for Small Business Leeanne Enoch said it was important to support ambitious business start-ups as well as innovation in new and existing industries.

“Awards such as these highlight the strength of innovation in Queensland’s innovation sector, which is a key driver of economic change and jobs growth,” Ms Enoch said.

“These local entrepreneurs are generating ideas that will lead to advances in technology and industry that most of us can’t even imagine. We need to ensure we are providing opportunities for their innovative ideas to succeed.”

Federal Assistant Minister for Innovation Wyatt Roy said local entrepreneurs would play a large role in helping to put Australia on the map as a global hub of innovation.

“We want our innovators and entrepreneurs to grow and break into new markets and attracting early-stage capital is vital to Australian start-ups succeeding,” Mr Roy said.

“Initiatives such as the Moreton Bay Innovation Awards put a spotlight on the exceptional innovation occurring in our local businesses and backyards and will help attract investment.

“This supportive local-level approach is vital if Australia is to achieve its potential as a world leader in innovation and entrepreneurship.”
