Circular Economy

What Businesses are Saying

Simon Tannock ST-TI

“The other potentially valuable connection was with Lindsay Packer (Packer Leather). We discussed a lot about wastewater and he has invited me to his site. I think there is a good chance I can add value to him and so that was valuable.”

About the Collaboration

Waste Management (Circular Economy): RDA Moreton Bay has initiated a thought leadership group to develop new products and services to address waste and contribute to environmental sustainability. Referred to as the Circular Economy, RDA Moreton Bay has partnered with the Queensland Government under its Advance Queensland initiative to identify local potential waste streams, prioritise the waste streams and identify potential project areas.

Group Activity

A workshop on the Circular Economy as it relates to the utilisation of waste streams was conducted in Narangba on the 3rd December. Led by RDA Moreton Bay, this workshop is part of the Queensland Governments Advance Queensland initiative, and is delivered by Impact Innovation Group. The focus of the workshop is to identify local potential waste streams, prioritise the waste streams and identify potential project areas.

Four projects are identified: A pallet deconstruction project, Biosolids to fertilizer / soil improvement project, Biosolids to gas project, and Value add to strawberry organic waste project.

Anthony Dow, the Business Cluster Manager for RDA Moreton Bay agreed to take a lead coordinating role for each of the projects and a team of 6 from waste management, utilities, council and industry indicated their interest in being involved in future planning and implementation of the priority projects.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the progressions of the priority projects were discussed and in addition it was recognised that there was a need to:

  • Undertake a project-by-project approach to achieve early successes.
  • Focus on small scale, low risk activities initially to increase the chances of success.
  • Assess the value of a more detailed audit
  • Assess the value of an online platform to create visibility of waste streams.
