Form your own team and hustle to produce the greatest open data creation! GovHack is for everyone from artists and storytellers through to developers and entrepreneurs.
Teams compete for awards using Government open data to provide solutions to social, economic and environmental challenges.
Across one exciting weekend, teams come together, projects are agreed upon and participants work towards completing the project. The event is held over a 46-hour period, starting on Friday night at 7pm.
Participants of GovHack will attend one of the Official or Node venues which occur across Australia.
The 2017 event saw 3000 participants, 430 projects and 36 locations across Australia and New Zealand.
Why is GovHack important?
GovHack has been designed to raise the profile of open government data and to:
- To provide an opportunity through open data for government, citizens and industry to collaborate, gain knowledge and develop new skills;
- To showcase open data as a mechanism for identifying and solving deep-rooted social, economic and environmental challenges;
- To impress upon Government the economic and societal value of quality, machine-readable, standardised open data;
- To highlight the increasing value of open data as a tool to promote transparency, strengthen democracy, and develop trust.
GovHack organisers are currently seeking volunteers to help make the GovHack experience awesome.
GovHack is a respected community event which has established strong ties with Australian developer communities, industry, and all tiers of government. The integrity of GovHack is paramount.
