RDA Moreton Bay Secures SQW Funding for Sweetest Job Campaign

Residents of the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast regions are set to benefit from recent funding via the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work program for the Sweetest Job campaign.

On the back of the $362,500 funding grant awarded to Regional Development Australia (RDA) Moreton Bay, 120 applicants will have the opportunity to gain Certifications in Horticulture or Packaging & Logistics with a view to gaining sustainable employment in the food and agribusiness industry.

Key objectives of the Sweetest Job campaign are as follows:

  • Support participants to overcome individual learning, employment, social and health related barriers and enhance their personal and social development through individual case management and customised support;
  • Assist participants to gain the skills required by local employers gain a job resulting in positive socioeconomic outcomes for individuals, their families and the community;
  • Meet the skills and labour needs of local employers to fill ongoing, skilled jobs on farms, in food processing enterprises and across the industry supply chain resulting in productivity and economic gains for employers, the industry and the local economy.

This latest funding sees Regional Development Australia Moreton Bay secure additional funding at a rate of 2.5 times that of the Operational Funding invested in the organisation by the Australian Government – all of which is invested back into the Moreton Bay Region for economic and business development activities.

Shane Newcombe, RDA Moreton Bay Committee Chair, says “RDA Moreton Bay continues to punch above its weight when it comes to business and industry engagement, and collaboration. Initiatives such as the Sweetest Job Campaign, Business Cluster Development, Export Network, Innovation and the Start Up Moreton Bay Region program, demonstrate unwavering commitment to contribute and grow the Moreton Bay region economy.

“We also eagerly anticipate the outcomes of the Australian Government’s review on the national RDA network and look forward to contributing to the growth of the Moreton Bay Region for many years to come.”

Skilling Queenslanders for Work is a Queensland Government program investing $240m over four years to support up to 32,000 Queenslanders into work through a suite of targeted skills and training programs. RDA Moreton Bay looks forward to partnering with Stones Throw Consulting (STC), QLD Strawberry Growers Association (QSGA), Growcom and other industry partners to run the Sweetest Job campaign once again in 2017.
