The Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) Alert First Start (Community) traineeships have had revised guidelines issued.

The department has received a number of enquiries regarding sub-contracting arrangements and Queensland Government subsidies available in addition to First Start funding.

The First Start Guidelines for funding 2016-17 have now been updated to reflect the department’s position on sub-contracting and government funding, and a copy of the revised guidelines are attached for your information.

First Start funding will provide local community organisations with a significant subsidy to employ local jobseekers. Funding of $20,000 per trainee is available for not-for-profit community organisations under First Start, with funding specifically targeted at new employees.

To register your interest in applying for First Start funding please email the SQW team at  An application form will then be sent to you for review and completion.

Note: To be eligible for this funding, trainees must be recruited and entered into a formal training contract for a qualification that is funded by DET by 30 June 2017.
