On Monday 23 July RDA Moreton Bay, in partnership with TAFE Queensland, delivered another Expressway forum. Thirty business people from the Moreton Bay Region and beyond, joined us for an evening of learning, networking and refreshments in the wonderful surrounds of the new Best Western Plus Hotel at North Lakes.
Guests were treated to the expert knowledge and practical advice of Lindy Chen who spoke about how best for Australian exporters to use Alibaba. Lindy Chen is the founder and Managing Director of ChinaDirect Sourcing Services and Chinadirect investment and is considered one of Australia’s foremost experts on doing business with China. With more than fifteen years’ experience in International Trade, a member of the Australia China Business Council and as president of Sunnybank Chamber of Commerce, Lindy is well placed to talk to Moreton Bay region businesses interested in exporting to China.
The case study for this event was presented by Ann ross of Hive Haven. In 2011 Ann and Jeff Ross discovered a colony of honeybees had made a home in the wall of their mechanical workshop in Beerburrum. Many people might have followed the advice of friends and called in the pest control but having come from a family of apiarists; Jeff coaxed the bees into a box and before long bees and honey had become their passion.
Ann and Jeff had identified a commercial opportunity for native honey but before these markets could be explored they would had to design a hive to suit the very hot weather conditions at Beerburrum. Fast forward to 2018 – Hive Haven received funding from the Queensland Ignite Fund to manufacture the Hive Haven V9.
The Expressway evening was rounded out by a presentation from Greg Schossow who is the Digital Economy Engagement Officer for South East Queensland within the Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works. Greg who is part of the Digital Economy Development team and managing the delivery of the Digital Business Capability Program talked about the Digital Scorecard online assessment tool.
